Requirements for Final Project:
(1) Choose either a theory track project or an applied track project.
-
In a theory track project, the students will identify a topic of interest, and formulate it as a mathematical
problem. If significant progress on the problem is made, then they will get an A
automatically. If not sufficient progress is made, they
can choose to write a survey paper on this topic of at most 10 pages long
that covers background knowledge, related work on this topic, possible
techniques to solve the problem and interesting future directions.
-
In an applied track project, the students will identify a topic of interest,
and simulate/implement an algorithm (or algorithms) and evaluate the performance.
Students are encouraged not to repeat the exactly same simulations that
have already appeared in the literature. Identifying the pros and cons
of the algorithm and studying possible ways to improve it are encouraged.
(2) The project paper is at most 10 pages long. The paper should have
the same format as a regular paper.
