MyRTP Architecture

We deployed and evaluated the MyRT protocol on a local Myrinet testbed consisting of four hosts and two switches. A detailed explanation of the testbed topology is given in Section 6. Myrinet networks are very easy to reconfigure in different topologies. One possible configuration for the local testbed, is shown in Figure 2. Since the Myrinet switches have no computational capabilities, a host must be assigned to run the SEC daemon for every switch in the network. This host can be connected to the switch or it can be remote. In order to simplify the location management, we specified that the SEC for each switch runs in the host connected to port 0 of the switch. The MyRTP daemons can be configured to communicate with each other either over TCP/UDP sockets or using the underlying data link layer directly. The communication primitives are elaborated in a later section.
